Foundation

The Bible (as defined by the Protestant canon) is God's inspired Word (I Corinthians 14:37; II Timothy 3:16), written in the language of its times and reflecting the writers' worldview. It is the Christian's highest authority on matters of doctrine and practice.

Any teaching which contradicts the following statement of faith is rejected.
'Abba Antony said, "A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying, 'You are mad, you are not like us.'"'

God

There is only one God (Yahweh; the Father) who is one Divine Person1 existing as one omnipotent,2 omniscient,3 self-existent4 Being. He communicates with us primarily through His Word the Bible.5

God created the world6 for His good pleasure7 and planned to fill it with His glory.8 He made a covenant with the Jewish patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,9 promising a unique relationship with their descendents10 and the land of Israel as their perpetual inheritance.11 This will be fulfilled when they are reconciled to Him at a future time.12

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God13 and the supernatural power by which He performs His will. Although bestowed in earlier times it is currently unavailable to us.14

Sin

Temptation is common to all human beings, but we are only counted sinners when we knowingly disobey God.15 Temptation's origins are internal (our own desires) and external (e.g. other people)16 but not supernatural.17 Through their sin,18 the first humans19 forfeited the gift of immortality and condemned humanity to a state of sin-prone mortality.20 This necessitated reconciliation21 and salvation22 through Jesus alone.23

Humanity

Human beings are mortal; physical resurrection offers the only hope of life after death.24 Human salvation cannot be achieved by faith alone,25 or earned by acts of obedience.26 It is the gift of God, provided by His loving grace.27

Salvation is conditional upon God's forgiveness, and obedience to the will of God and commandments of Christ.28 God's forgiveness is conditional upon sincere confession and repentance.29

Jesus

Jesus of Nazareth, the promised Jewish Messiah,30 was a mortal man31 conceived by divine intervention, on which basis he is the Son of God.32 He was born to the virgin Mary,33empowered by the Holy Spirit,34and enjoyed a unique relationship with the Father. 35 Although subject to temptation36 and capable of sin,37 he lived a life of obedience to God38 without ever sinning.39

Motivated by His abundant love for us,40 God gave Jesus as an atoning sacrifice for our sins alone41—not as a substitute or ransom for ourselves, nor for the appeasement of His wrath. The atonement is participatory rather than passive; we identify with Jesus upon baptism, symbolically sharing his death and resurrection in the ritual itself and in the ‘death to sin’ of our ‘new life’ in Christ.42 Through the atonement God forgives our transgressions43 and offers us immortality.44 We may accept or reject His offer through our own free will.45

In reward for his sinless life Jesus was raised to immortality.46 He now sits at the Father’s right hand47 as our only mediator with God.48 Jesus calls us to remember his sacrifice through a memorial supper in which his body and blood are symbolically represented.49 He instructs us to love and forgive one another, refrain from sin and obey his commandments.50

Those who enter into a covenant relationship with God through true belief, repentance and baptism51 become the children of God,52 sharing in His love and the promises made to Abraham.53 Together they comprise the 'body of Christ',54 united in love on the basis of a common faith, and equal before God regardless of their individual differences.55

Christians are pilgrims and sojourners in the world. We accept Jesus alone as our master, keep separate from the politics and military service of earthly nations, and await the establishment of God's literal kingdom of God on Earth.56

Destiny

At an appointed time (concealed from humanity) Jesus will return to Earth.57 Following a resurrection of the dead,58 he will judge those considered responsible and rule over the world from Jerusalem as king for 1,000 years. The faithful will be rewarded with immortality and a place in Jesus’ kingdom; the unfaithful will be punished with eternal death.59

At the end of this period the mortal population will experience a resurrection and judgement, after which sin and death will be purged from the world and the earth will be filled with the glory of God.60
